The Round House Theatre concludes its 2023-2024 season with Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning production “Topdog/Underdog,” written by Suzan-Lori Parks.

The production runs from May 29 to June 23.

This modern American classic, directed by Jamil Jude, explores the lives of two brothers who are bound together by their names, blood, and shared destiny. Black Out Night Round House has announced that a special Black Out performance of the production will take place on June 19.

A Black Out performance is designed to purposefully prioritize the needs of Black-identifying audience members to be seen and celebrated in theatrical spaces and to provide a supportive and safe space for Black-identifying theatergoers to experience a show made by Black artists in fellowship with each other.

  1. As a long-time theatergoer, I’m not sure why there is a need to have this play performed before a segregated audience. How is having diverse members of the audience of different races seen as a threat or problem? Since when do Black people who watch a play about Black people feel “unsafe” if there other other races in the audience? I never met any. This kind of effort just gives the theater a bad name. Just show the damn play and leave the audience alone.
