Millard House II

Prince George鈥檚 County Public Schools (PGCPS) will kick off the school year with a new leader at the helm. Millard House II was appointed Superintendent by Prince George鈥檚 County Executive Angela Alsobrooks effective July 1, 2023.

Superintendent House came from the Houston Independent School District (HISD), the largest school district in Texas and the eighth largest in the country. During his two-year tenure, he implemented HISD鈥檚 first comprehensive five-year strategic plan shaped and guided by community input. Under his leadership, the administration delivered on the plan by lifting 40 of 50 campuses off the state failing list, increasing teacher compensation by 11%, making a nurse, librarian, and counselor available on every campus, addressing a structural deficit and making challenging high-quality instructional material accessible to all students.

House will continue to use a collaborative approach in PGCPS, with plans to hold listening sessions with stakeholders at the start of the school year.

鈥淐ollaboration is key to building a community of support for our schools, and I look forward to learning firsthand from students, families and staff what is important to them and what we need to improve.鈥

House has already identified improvements to school security as a top priority for the 2023-2024 school year. To deter bringing dangerous items into schools, middle and high school students, staff and visitors will be required to pass through screening devices at school entrances this fall. Device installation will be phased in starting with schools with the highest needs. Additionally, clear backpacks will be required for students in grades nine through twelve and students in Non-Traditional Programs (North, South and Middle).

鈥淪chool security has become a top priority as incidents of weapons and violence in schools are highlighted in the media,鈥 said House. 鈥淚 believe these two strategies will make a significant impact in reducing incidents in our secondary schools and will go a long way in making everyone feel safer in school.鈥

Superintendent House is well-prepared to meet the needs of students in Prince George鈥檚 County. At the end of his first year at HISD, he was named a Green-Garner Award finalist by the Council of Great City Schools for outstanding contributions to urban education. The Houston Area Urban League also recognized his contributions to the city鈥檚 children with a Black Excellence in Education award.

He succeeds Dr. Monica Goldson who served as Chief Executive Officer for the last five years of her 32-year career in PGCPS.

  1. I would to see clear backpacks used at all schools i work security at a middle school, and last year we found a lot of contraband, drugs, vapes, toy guns and to include two steak knives that two seventh graders planned to use in a fight. So i would like to see the clear backpack topic re-discussed. This is a safety issue for staff, students, bus drivers. Thank You For Your Attention In This Matter

  2. Clear backpacks will not work. Do you realize what goes into a backpack? Opaque things! How hard will it be to hide a gun, drugs, knives, etc. within a sweatshirt, or between a laptop and notebook? This order was done for show to make it appear as if the new superintendent is acting quickly on something. Parkdale ’72.

Suspending their season at the last minute before a playoff game…

  6. WHY DONT PGCPS HAVE METAL DETECTORS, DOOR ALARMS, CAMERAS ON ALL DOORS AND MORE SECURITY!!! PGCPS DONT CARE ABOUT CHILDREN SAFETY. THATS WHY YOU HAVE SO MANY PG RESIDENTS IN DCPS!!!!

  7. My son has a fractured fibula, he has a doctors note that was given to his teacher that he is not to do any sports for 4 weeks. He was forced to participate but his pe teacher and after my son told the teacher he is still injured the teacher told him “he doesn’t look hurt”. I called the school to speak with the administration but they refused to talk to me saying the pe teacher was gone for the day and they will call me tomorrow. Something needs to be done about this as the school defied a doctors order that may result in more injury to the child.

  8. I am having an issue with my children鈥檚 school to where they had my son interviewed without my acknowledgement, and called me after the fact. I am looking into legal action and want to speak with the board.
