The Capital Area Food Bank has announced its annual summer meals program, which will provide free meals for children across D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
To help families locate these summer meal sites in their neighborhoods, the food bank has two interactive webpages: and . Each of the web pages features an interactive map showing when and where kids can get free meals this summer. In these maps, the food bank has created the only comprehensive collection available of the DMV’s free-to-all-kids meals sites.
Meal sites will start operating after June 17 and provide free meals to eligible children 18 and younger. All children, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, are eligible, including foster children and children who are members of households receiving SNAP or TCA benefits.
The program, which operates through the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program, will deliver healthy, kid-friendly meals to apartment buildings, public recreation centers, places of worship, and other locations. According to a Capital Area Food Bank press release, more than 56,000 summer meals and snacks were provided in 2023 and thousands more are expected to be provided this year.
